Stylist Spotlight: Sharalyn
Sharalyn is one of the talented stylist we are lucky to have at bel ami Salon. You may have seen her around the salon, but read on to learn more about her!
Tell us about your time at bel ami Salon
I’ve been here for about 6 months and it is like home. You spend more time at your job than you do at home with your family, so this became my second family. I’ve been loving it so much, all of the girls get along so well. It’s so cute and cozy here!
Why do you do hair?
I started doing hair because I grew up really self-conscious and saw so many girls care so much about beauty and not feeling that they are valuable. One of my biggest things is making people feel beautiful and being able to talk to them about it. Bringing their inner beauty out and really helping them shine is so important to me, I want everyone to be able to feel comfortable in my chair because I know what they’ve been through. I want to bring out everyone’s inner “light.”
What is your area of expertise/favorite thing to do?
All of my blonding. Hair painting, balayage, lived-in natural color, babylights. Bascially anything with a lot of attention to detail is my thing. I love to do all sun kissed looks and love textured cuts like bobs.
When you aren’t at work, what are you doing?
I’m binge watching a TV series, riding bikes with my kids or coming up with a new baking creation!
If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go?
I think I would like to go somewhere far away, like an island, with no kids. Nice and relaxing with someone serving me lots of alcohol, oh and- no kids! (laughing). On a more serious note I’d probably go to Ireland to a small hole-in-the-wall pub. I’d love to listen to all of the old men tell their fascinating stories and drink a huge beer (that would taste disgusting) but I’d enjoy that a lot.
What is your favorite food?
I could do a medium-rare steak with potatoes any day. With some garlic butter, yum! Also, sushi!
Who is your favorite band/musician?
This one is hard, music is my life! I have a very eclectic vibe, so I’ll really listen to anything. I grew up on folk music, bluegrass and country. If I want to dance it’ll be techno or electronic music, me and my kids love to bop our heads to that! I don’t really have a favorite, I love it all.
Tell us a crazy story from your life
Sometimes I feel like my life should be a movie! One time, when I was a kid, it was winter and all of the neighborhood kids were over at my house because we had a really big basketball hoop. So I thought it would be a really good idea (because I’m so smart) to tie a rope around one of the kid’s stomachs, put the rope through the hoop, and pull them up so they could reach it and shoot the goal. It was freezing outside so my hands really hurt pulling this girl up, so I put the rope in my teeth. I thought that was really smart. It pulled my front teeth right out of my mouth.
I had another incident with ropes, one time when I was grounded in my room on the second story of my house. I thought it would be really cool to tie all of the bath robes together and tie them around my waist so that I could jump out of the window and run away to the forest.
Picture this: You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What do you do with the elephant?
My first, initial thought, is to eat it. But, of course you probably wouldn’t want to eat an elephant! So, it reminds me of a story book I grew up with. A girl had to bring an elephant inside her house and it broke through the floor. She wanted to travel, so she made it walk with the house on its back until it took her to her paradise. So, I’d probably put it to work and maybe ride it until it took me to paradise!
What do you wish more people knew about you?
I just love to love. I am empathetic and have a huge heart, so I want everyone around me to be happy and I want to share that love. I just want more love!
