Stylist Spotlight: Brenda

Tell us about yourself and your time at bel ami Salon

I’m a level 1 stylist at bel ami, and my time here has been really nice. I’ve been getting a lot busier lately! I love color, and I’m getting to do a lot more of it. I feel like our whole staff is really close, and even with our clients too. We are all like a little family, I love it!

Why do you do hair?

I do hair to make people’s inner beauty come to the outside and make them feel better about themselves. When I was little, I got one of those little salon station kits and I would do all of my family’s hair. When I got older, I was really interested in doing hair. So, I always did everyone’s hair and makeup for proms and homecomings and stuff like that.

What is your area of expertise/favorite thing to do?

I love color and I am very passionate about ethnic hair. I love to highlight, even though I didn’t think that was going to end up being one of my favorite things to do! I definitely feel like I am the most passionate about all color, and braiding. I lean towards ethnic hair since I am so comfortable with it, and know a lot about it. I love highlights because it is such a good way to start the blonding process.

When you aren’t at work, what are you doing?

Probably sleeping, or hanging out with friends. I spend a lot of time with my family as well!

If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go?

Bora Bora! It is so pretty, and I feel like it is just amazing. I want to travel a lot and visit a ton of places, but I feel like Bora Bora seems amazing. It looks so tropical and beautiful with the gorgeous water, and so relaxing.

What is your favorite food?

I love seafood. I love crab legs. I could seriously eat crab legs every day!

Who is your favorite band/musician?

I listen to a lot of R&B, hip-hop, and oldies like Al Green, Aretha Franklin. But honestly, I don’t really have a favorite artist.

Tell us a crazy story from your life

One time I was eating dinner with my family and I saw a ton of cop lights. They pulled up behind my house, because apparently there was some guy running from them through our neighborhood and jumping fences. I guess he was going around a roundabout and got in a car accident, and just booked it and ran. I guess they caught him and arrested him. I guess that isn’t very crazy but it was super interesting and weird when it happened!

Picture this: You’ve been given an elephant. You can’t give it away or sell it. What do you do with the elephant?

Well, I would probably move everything out of my house and live just with the elephant. Then, I don’t know, we would probably rule the world or something. I’d definitely take over the world with my elephant! Or, I’d travel with him, maybe both at the same time? I love elephants, I actually have a tattoo of an elephant!

What do you wish more people knew about you?

I get motivated more and work a lot harder when I’m around people who put off strong, motivated energy! I really thrive around people who put off that kind of energy.
